Ford's Model T

In 2008, America will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the car that made automotive transportation a part of everyday life - Henry Ford's Model T.

The Model T wasn't the first automobile....or even Henry Ford's first creation. However, it was the first automobile that was easily affordable. Its creation helped "put America on wheels," and created much of the American auto industry as we know it.

Ford was an early believer in the potential of automobiles, but suffered several setbacks in his efforts to form his own automobile manufacturing company. He was finally able to establish the Ford Motor Company in 1903 with himself as vice-president and chief engineer.

At first, Ford's progress proved slow. His men were only able to turn out two or three cars a day, because they had to order certain components from other companies and work on individual cars as the parts became available.

That's when Ford hit onto an idea that would change the world - mass production. He became determined that every aspect of every car would be produced in-house, with as little reliance on outside sources as possible.

Ford's dream of expansion might have sounded crazy at the time - but it worked. In October 1, 1908, his company unveiled the Model T Ford - the first automobile that was easy to operate and affordably priced. The Model boasted a 20-horsepower, four-cylinder engine that could reach up to 45 miles per hour. Its mileage was about 13 to 21 miles per gallon, and the whole thing weighed 1,200 pounds.

There weren't many variations on the Model T - it boasted nine body types, all with the same chassis. Some individuals have claimed that Ford once said, "It can be any color, as long as it's black," though this has never been formally proven.

Even with the lack of variety, Ford's mass-production model allowed for advantages he passed on to the customers. The initial Model T cost $850, though later on, their cost went as low as $260, because of the lowered production costs.

In addition, Ford's determination to do everything in-house resulted in a $5-a-day wage for his employees, nearly double what other automobile companies offered. It also led to the creation of the world's largest industrial complex in Dearborn, Michigan, which helped establish that state as one of the world's leading automobile manufacturers.

America couldn't get enough of what Ford called "the universal car." Ten years after its premiere, nearly half of all Americans owned a Model T. Over the course of its 19-year history, 15 million Model T Fords would be manufactured, the longest production of any car until the Volkswagen Beetle.

Though the Model T has been gone for decades, it's still remembered as the car in the history of automobiles. In 1999, the Model T was declared "The Car of the Century" by a group of more than 100 automotive experts from 32 countries. Its legacy lives on in the millions of Ford automobiles still driven every day - and, of course, in the fact that cars caught on in the first place. Here's to you at 100, Model T!

Convert Your Automobile To Run On Water

Many vehicle drivers dream of having their cars running on water, since that can result in a lot of costs savings. Many people think that this possible because they have heard of rumors of cars running with water. But does such technology really exist, or is it just a myth?

How Does Powering An Automobile With Water Work?

Water is made of 2 elements which are hydrogen and oxygen. When an electric current is passed through water (this process is also known as electrolysis), the hydrogen and oxygen and split up and form O2 and H2 molecules.

Hydrogen had already been discovered as a source of power about 20 years ago. This simple and abundant element has been proven to be able to provide more power than gasoline when used to power automobiles.

However, powering your vehicles completely on water has not yet become reality. You still need to buy some gasoline to power your car, but by making slight modifications to your car engine, you can use a mix of water and gasoline to run your automobile. All these can be done easily without having to purchase a new hybrid car.

There has not been much discussed by the media about this kind of technology, because it would seriously affect the profits of oil companies if people started to use water to run their automobiles. It has been kept from being released to the public by world leaders for this reason.

How To Convert Your Own Car To Run On Water?

This system can be easily accessed and built today with DIY guides available for download. Usually, beginners only need a small budget to get started, which should cost less than $100. Once modified, this water power engine system can also be easily reversed, thus making it easy to remove.

Anti Freezing Conditions For Automobiles Engine

Will environmentally friendly anti-freeze work as well in your car as commercial products?

Most automobile engines require water to control their temperatures from getting too hot as they run. Way back when, this was difficult because a car's engine runs at a temperature that is greater than the boiling point of water. So if water was put into a hot engine it simply boiled off and had to be replenished with constant stops to re-supply. The invention of the radiator partially cured this problem as the water was kept under pressure which raised its boiling point and kept it from boiling away. But cars continued to have difficulties with over heating even with the radiator.

Autos also had problems when it becomes very cold out. Instead of boiling away, the water froze inside the engine. When water freezes it expands and takes up more space. Years ago, cars had freeze plugs put into them that popped out when the water froze to protect the engine from cracking under the pressure of expansion.

Modern antifreeze additives solved the problems of overheating and freezing. There are many additives that will alter the boiling and freezing point of water, simple table salt will affect these points. Antifreeze solutions have a greater affect on the boiling and freezing point but they come at a price. Most modern antifreezes are not environmentally safe and must be disposed of as a hazardous waste. In recent years a number of environmentally friendly antifreeze products have come on the market.

This investigation will compare their effectiveness compared to traditional antifreeze products. To do this science experiment, you will need some non-diluted environmentally friendly anti-freeze. You will also need some commercial non-diluted anti-freeze. In addition you will require a thermometer, an outdoor stove or burner, and a freezer with temperature controls.

Start your experiment by taking 500ml of pure water. Put it on the stove and bring to boil. Record this temperature, it will be your boiling control group. Be sure to do this outside as antifreeze will produce unwanted odor in house.

Now put in 5ml of traditional antifreeze into 500ml of water (recheck water level each time as some will boil off). Boil this solution and record temperature. Repeat this step using environmentally friendly antifreeze.

Next repeat previous steps using 10ml of antifreeze in 500ml and record your boiling points. Continue this process through 25ml of antifreeze concentrations.

When you have collected your boiling point data repeat the process varying the concentrations of antifreeze but now freeze them instead of boiling them. Start with pure water. Set your freezer to 310 and put thermometer in water. Check periodically, record temperature when ice first starts to form, do not let water freeze completely. Then put in your 5ml concentrations and put back in freezer. If solutions do not freeze set your freezer at a colder temperature and record temperature when ice first appears. Continue this process through your 25ml solutions.

Choice And vareities Of Cars

Leases typically last for two four years, with leases on high-end vehicles and luxury cars sometimes stretching up to five years. Convertibles, sedans and the like fall under body style and finance by class and has the likes of luxury automobiles, sports cars and so on. High-end vehicles tend to have higher insurance rates because of the higher premium you pay for them. Anybody with a decent credit score can buy a Mercedes, but can you afford the payment? Can you afford the full coverage insurance it requires? Not many can.

If all companies looked only at the bottom line, no companies would have corporate suites, no executives would be driving luxury vehicles, their would be no Ritz Carlton Hotels, no luxury development or condominiums. If your lifestyle consists of having a big house with two luxury cars, being able to take multiple vacations every year, and buying lots of expensive clothes, jewelery, and gadgets, then your income is probably very high or you have leveraged yourself to the hilt in debt.

Sports Cars

Manufacturers of sports cars will benefit from economic growth but will suffer in times of recession. It could be anything from your dream home, sports cars to pictures of your holiday destinations and the like. You would read about some of the strange places I have visited and adventures I have been on in 4x4's, sports cars and boats. It doesn't matter if you (like me) hate all the hype and the web page headers showing mansions and sports cars and $100 bills. Most students nowadays do not arrive at campus in BMW sports cars and credit cards to boot. Sports cars are also a victim of a high insurance premium, but not as much as a $150,000 BMW. Small, affordable sports cars from companies such as Toyota, Mazda & Mitsubishi are getting very popular because of their "bang for the buck". Meaning they are cheaper than almost any exotic car you can find, and they probably boast more features, a longer warranty, cheaper parts and maintenance, more engine power and a comparably smooth ride. It doesn't take $100,000 to buy a good sports car. Hell, you could go buy a 93 Toyota Supra for around 17K and have 327HP right out of the box, thats 27HP more than a $70,000 Porsche Carrera boasts and with the potential of making 1000HP without breaking a sweat, well that just makes everything else look like garbage.

Small / Passenger Cars

Most small vehicles come with CD players as standard, but the sound quality that can be obtained from the CD player will be quite poor. There are some great small cars that are very fuel efficient, even a hybrid car that is good for the environment too. Because the term "diecast" refers to any product produced using the casting method, the first models on the market were small cars or vans without plastic windows. That doesn't take away from the quality of a small car, most companies now have a wide range of smaller cars now that the price of gas has ballooned. Making cars smaller reduces tax for people who use public transport, giving us an incentive for walking or cycling. Compare this to one of the most efficient small cars around, the Polo 1. There are pedestrians, bicycles, motorcycles, small cars, minivans, buses, lorries and trailers. All of these are available for a relatively cheap price, and they are cheap on insurance and gas.

Exotic Cars

You can buy exotic cars from Jaguar, Volvo, Range Rover and Ferrari. From exotic cars to exotic houses, chose something that gets your blood moving. Maybe a second lottery win allows you to purchase more items like a few more exotic cars. Ferrari's are usually a person's drug of choice, then comes the Porsche or the Lamborghini. These cars are well above a normal persons means, they can cost anywhere from $100,000 up to 1.5 Million dollars, such as the Bugatti Veyron is currently sporting as a price tag.

Whatever car you choose to purchase, make sure that it is something you feel comfortable in. Don't buy something that looks cool, but you hate being in because you are a big or small person. Get the "this feels right" feeling before you make a purchase.

The Efficiency Of Gas In Cars And Bikes

Most people who sell and make cars often advertise the efficiency of these vehicles. A lot of agencies involved in consumer protection usually dispute the veracity of most of these claims about efficiency. Despite the controversy about efficiency and cleaner air, most people still know that hybrid vehicles are better for the environment than their other counterparts which are mostly fuelled by gas.

Mixture cars function by combining gas and electric power and offer a car that emits less harmful emissions into the air. However, these alternative cars have become the butt of criticism in recent years because of claims that they lack the fuel efficiency claimed by their manufacturers. However, advocates of these types of cars say that even traditional cars fail to meet the fuel efficiency levels that are ordinarily set for such vehicles.

Alternative fuel automobiles were first advertised as the gas-savers of the future when they first came on the market in the year 1999. Mixture vehicles tend to use only a minimal proportion of the gas stored in them due to the fact that they split the workload of powering the car with an electric engine too. Complete hybrid vehicles allow the electric motor to function without the aid of the combustion engine when you are driving at low speeds. What this does is that it ends up helping you save on gas and reduces the amount of harmful emissions that usually get transmitted into the atmosphere. When you stop completely such as when you're in traffic or before a stop sign a hybrid engine will turn itself off and allow the electric motor handle the entire power requirements of the vehicle. This reduces emissions too.

People who buy vehicles should know that a mild alternate fuel based vehicle is a lot different from a full hybrid vehicle. In a mild mixture vehicle, the electric motor only assists the engine when more power is required for the vehicle. A full hybrid on the other hand is different. A mild hybrid vehicle is less friendly in terms of environmental effects, than a full hybrid is.

A combination fuel-sourced vehicle is better for people who drive in town most of the time. Full hybrid vehicles allow drivers who drive somewhat slowly to use the electric motor alone. This way a hybrid vehicle can save on gas and reduce any harmful emissions from getting into the atmosphere.

Regardless of the controversy with the hybrid vehicles that are currently being sold on the market today, most people want to do their best possible in order to reduce any effects on the environment. These same people also want to save money on gas as well.

Researchers estimate that in the very near future a lot more alternate fuel sourced mixture vehicles will be available for purchase on the market and will make up a considerable population of the number of automobiles on the road.

Different car manufacturers have joined the bid to produce some of the worlds best hybrid cars. These manufacturers now have different types and brands of hybrid cars bearing their marquee. Hybrids are the most efficient gas efficient and the most environmentally friendly vehicles that are in existence.
